This job is for on-site work in Washington, D.C. and Alexandria, VA.
This job encompasses all three job duties below. A sample work week might be Monday and Friday transcribing and scoping; Tuesday through Thursday reporting.
Court Reporter duties: responsible for capturing legal proceedings using audio or audio-visual recording technology; ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the recording; taking notes and annotating the proceedings for later transcription.
Transcriptionist duties: translate audio recordings like court hearings, depositions or any type of recording with word processing software.
Scoping duties: editing and proofreading legal transcripts to ensure accuracy, clarity, and proper formatting. They work with court reporters to turn rough transcripts into polished, final documents by correcting errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and by researching legal terms, proper names, and locations. A scopist must be highly attentive to detail and have a strong command of the English language to meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
Ideal candidates would have legal transcription and/or reporting experience, however we are open to providing on-the-job training. Applicants should have excellent English and grammar skills, have a can-do attitude and understand the importance of reliability and good communication.
Employment is contingent upon obtaining Public Trust clearance. Current Public Trust Clearance is preferred (T2 or above)
Minimum T2 clearance; excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation skills; MS Office (Word, Excel intermediate level); Adobe; file sharing; 70 WPM typing
